Engineered for Hazardous Environments
The oil and gas industry demands temperature sensors that operate reliably in some of the most hostile environments on earth — corrosive chemical atmospheres, extreme pressures exceeding 15,000 PSI, temperatures ranging from Arctic conditions to superheated steam, and hazardous classified areas where a single spark could be catastrophic.
Thermometrics manufactures explosion-proof and intrinsically safe temperature sensor assemblies specifically designed for oil and gas applications. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system ensures consistent performance and traceability, while our engineering team works with customers to optimize sensor designs for specific process conditions including chemical compatibility, pressure ratings, and response time requirements.
Explosion-Proof Design
Our explosion-proof sensor housings are designed to contain any internal ignition and prevent flame propagation to the surrounding hazardous atmosphere. Housings are available in cast aluminum and stainless steel with NPT or metric conduit entries, suitable for Class I, Division 1 & 2 and Zone 1 & 2 installations.
Intrinsically Safe Configurations
Intrinsically safe (IS) sensor configurations limit electrical energy to levels below those required to ignite hazardous gas mixtures. When paired with approved IS barriers, these sensors can be installed and maintained in Zone 0 and Class I, Division 1 areas without hot work permits.
Oil & Gas Applications
Our temperature sensors are deployed throughout upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas operations where accurate temperature measurement is critical for process control, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Refinery Process Control
Crude distillation column, catalytic cracker, hydrocracker, and reformer temperature monitoring. Multi-point thermocouple assemblies for distillation tray temperature profiling. RTD sensors for heat exchanger inlet/outlet monitoring with accuracy to ±0.1°C for energy balance calculations.
Pipeline Monitoring
Inline temperature measurement for crude oil, natural gas, and refined product pipelines. Welded thermowell assemblies rated for full pipeline pressure with 316L SS or Hastelloy wetted parts. Remote transmitter-mounted sensors for SCADA integration over 4-20mA or HART protocol.
Offshore Platforms
Saltwater-resistant temperature sensors for topsides process equipment, subsea manifolds, and riser systems. Duplex and super duplex stainless steel sheaths for marine corrosion resistance. High-vibration rated assemblies for platform-mounted rotating equipment.
Wellhead Monitoring
Downhole and surface wellhead temperature sensors for production monitoring, artificial lift optimization, and well integrity surveillance. High-pressure assemblies rated to 15,000 PSI with Inconel sheaths for sour gas (H2S) service per NACE MR0175.
Tank Farm & Storage
Multi-level tank temperature monitoring for inventory management and custody transfer calculations. Averaging RTD assemblies for accurate bulk temperature measurement in crude oil, refined product, and LNG storage tanks.
Fired Heaters & Boilers
Tube skin, firebox, and stack temperature monitoring for fired heaters, process furnaces, and package boilers. High-temperature thermocouples rated to 1200°C with ceramic protection tubes for direct flame exposure zones.
